Purely America were lucky enough to be invited out to sample the 'Burgh first hand, which is what lead us to showcase Purely Pittsburgh on these pages.  Over a fun-packed 4 days we saw some hotels, rode the cable car, enjoyed the 'Burgh Bits & Bites food tour, watched a Steelers game, visited the Andy Warhol Museum, toured a fascinating disused steel works, drank Pittsburgh whiskey, ate a Primanti sandwich, drank beer in a church converted to a brewery, breakfasted at Pamela's, visited the John Heinz History Centre, ate hoagies, self powered a Party Pedlar whist sampling more Pittsburgh beer, visited Butler County and toured the neighbourhoods.  We did all this so that you can  ask us all about it!  Call us on 0844 80 444 80.

Connecting people to communities through food. ‘Burgh Bits and Bites Food Tour is a food tasting adventure and historic walking tour of Pittsburgh neighborhoods.

Enjoy a historic narrative of the area along with a sampling of cuisine from some of Pittsburgh's best small local businesses and eateries.

Home to Pittsburgh native and prince of pop art, the Andy Warhol Museum is a must-see for art-lovers and pop culture junkies alike. Warhol is best known for his paintings of celebrities and the Campbell's Soup Cans.  The Warhol, the keeper of Andy Warhol's legacy, is one of the most comprehensive single-artist museums in the world. Provocative, challenging, and exploring all that art can and should be.

Nestled in the historic neighborhood of Lawrenceville, The Church Brew Works opened in 1996 as the first and only Brew Pub in the country to be located in a historic church and has grown to be awarded the title of the Best Large Brewpub in America at the prestigious Great American Beer Festival. The former St. John the Baptist Church was converted into an award winning restaurant and microbrewery. The restaurant’s cuisine features some traditional Pittsburgh favorites with our chef’s unique touch. Although the wood fired pizzas are a house favorite, the diverse collection of entrees could dazzle any gourmet’s palate. Try the unique Untraditional Pierogies, buffalo and wild mushroom meatloaf, grilled Kobe Beef Cheesesteak or award-winning onion soup. Cheers!


Home of the almost famous sandwich. Born in 1933 from a small wooden lunch stand in the Strip District to today with over 20 locations in Pittsburgh and South Florida, Primanti Bros. is a Pittsburgh tradition. These over-stuffed sandwiches with your choice of grilled meat topped with fresh hand-cut french fries, sweet and sour crunchy coleslaw, two slices of tomato all between two fresh slices of Italian bread have become world famous!




Voted Best Breakfast in Pittsburgh and named in the top ten of USA's Hotcakes, Pamela’s has something for everyone from classic local dishes to their famous hotcakes and traditional breakfast fare. With several locations throughout the city, Pamela’s is an easy itinerary add-on.




For over 25 years, Rivers of Steel has worked to tell the stories of southwestern Pennsylvania through its programs and attractions, amplifying this region’s legacy and enabling locals and tourists alike to connect the past with the present and gain a greater appreciation of Pittsburgh’s role in American history. 

Rivers of Steel’s attractions include three National Historic Landmarks, including the Carrie Blast Furnaces in Swissvale and Rankin, The Bost Building in Homestead, and the W.A. Young & Sons Foundry and Machine Shop in Rices Landing, in addition to the historic Pump House in Munhall - site of the 1892 Battle of Homestead, and the Explorer riverboat, which offers heritage sightseeing tours on the water. 


Ride the Duquesne Incline to the top of Mt. Washington for a fantastic view of the city. Once you arrive at the top of the incline, via a 1877 cable car, check out the museum of historic photos and head outside to the observation deck for great photos of Pittsburgh's beautiful skyline. All visitors must be aware that only cash is accepted. If you don't have exact cash, a machine will dispense dollar coins and quarters.

All of the above attractions are great for kids (except perhaps Church Brew Works!).  Here are some more ideas:

A great way to get to know Pittsburgh is on a Just Ducky Tour. This one-hour land and water adventure is fully-narrated and youngsters will enjoy “quacking” at passersby along the way. You’ll glide through the streets and splash into the rivers. Note: seasonal offering.

Children’s Museum: Rotating exhibits offer creative, fun and educational experiences throughout the museum.

Carnegie Science Center and Highmark SportsWorks: Interactive exhibits for kids of all ages include touring the USS Requin submarine, roboworld robotics, a ropes challenge and the world-renowned Miniature Railroad Village!

The National Aviary: Pittsburgh is home to The National Aviary, the only independent indoor nonprofit aviary in the country. Trek through the Tropical Rainforest, watch the Penguin feeding, or even arrange for a private bird encounter!

PNC Park: Sports fans of all ages delight in a traditional American baseball game at the award-winning PNC Park with views of the city. It’s a truly American experience!
